History and Information about RHCC

In 1967 the 59th District Assembly of the Alabama District, Church of the Nazarene, in session at Panama City, May 17 - 18, 1967, voted in favor of re-location of our district campground. Following the assembly your district superintendent and camp board began the search for a suitable location. It was felt that an undeveloped tract of land, easily accessible, near the center of the district, would be preferred by our constituency. It was hoped, too, that such acreage might be acquired at a reasonable cost.
After a diligent search and we sincerely believe with Gods help, the site was located 30 miles south of Birmingham, just off Interstate 65. The original tract of 80 acres was acquired for $10,000.00, only $125.00 per acre. Additional acreage at the entrance to the site is under acquisition at no cost to the district. The total area of the site will be close to 100 acres.
The Camp Board and Advisory Board voted unanimously to purchase property and to proceed with development plans to present to the 60th District Assembly, to meet in Birmingham May 22 - 23, 1968. A Camp Development Committee was set up, to include the Advisory Board, Camp Board, and representative members-at- large from across the district.

"The Alabama District has a great history of Camp Meeting interest and enthusiasm, dating back to the earliest days of our church, NOW, in our 60th Anniversary Year, as we make this transition, we must keep the old camp meeting spirit. aglow and build a great camp meeting center to reach thousands more with the message of full salvation." (Taken from the original proposal presented to the 60th District Assembly held in Birmingham in 1968)
